WFDF Announces Recommendations of Conduct Committee, Issues Joint Press Release with FIFD and EUF

(December 28, 2012)

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) has completed its report by the Conduct Committee of allegations of theft by a number of members of the Italian delegation to the 2012 World Juniors Ultimate Championship and the European Under-17 Ultimate Championship in Dublin this last August. This follows the completion of a review by the Federazione Italiana Flying Disc (“FIFD”) and by the European Ultimate Federation (“EUF”) earlier in the fall. A significant amount of merchandise was stolen from the official vendor, Five Ultimate, although it was subsequently returned when the team manager for FIFD learned of the scheme. With coordination among all three involved governing bodies, the following actions are announced:

The FIFD board has decided upon the following course of action:

• Under 17 Players: suspension from all national teams in 2013; suspension from national championship and subsequent events (EUCF and Club Worlds) in 2012 and 2013;

• Under 20 Players: suspension from all national teams in 2013 and 2014; suspension from Italian national championship and subsequent events (EUCF and Club Worlds) in 2012 and 2013;

• All involved players: detailed letter to their parents, delivered by local club presidents; two compulsory meetings during tryouts in 2013 with a psychologist and pedagogist; contributions in the development of a new FIFD internal Conduct Code.

In addition to the sanction imposed by FIFD, the Italian Under 17 players involved were subject to an immediate sanction by EUF at the event in Dublin through the withdrawal of awarded medals (immediately after the award ceremony).

In addition to sanctions imposed by FIFD and EUF, all involved players (both Under 17 and Under 20) will be subject to the following sanctions by WFDF:

· Personal loss of any standing in the 2012 WJUC;

· Exclusion from participation in WFDF-sanctioned events through year end 2013;

· Requirement of four hours of personal service at the first WFDF-sanctioned event in which they play in 2014, if any (i.e. World Juniors Ultimate Championship or World Ultimate Club Championship); such service would include tasks such as lining fields, delivering water and ice to fields, cleaning trash at the end of the day, or other tasks as assigned by the tournament organizing staff; FIFD has agreed to notify the TOC of Involved Parties subject to this service requirement and ensure the cooperation of the Involved Parties; and

· Written apology from each of the Involved Parties to Five Ultimate in a form acceptable to WFDF, EUF, and FIFD. Such apology will be submitted after the two counseling sessions organized by FIFD for the involved players in the spring of 2013.

FIFD President Francesco Franceschetti stated: “This is a very unfortunate incident which the FIDF board felt required a strong but constructive response. We appreciate the level of cooperation and coordination we have received from the other disc governing bodies in developing a thoughtful program.” “This was a type of ‘spirit of the game’ violation off the field with which we were disappointed to have to address at an otherwise very successful event, and we hope that all players can learn from the mistakes made,” said Andrea "Oddi" Furlan, President of the EUF. Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President, commented: “This was a very serious offense and we appreciate the approach taken by Five Ultimate in working with WFDF, EUF, and FIFD to avoid criminal action by the local police. We laud FIFD and its staff in the way they handled this unfortunate and embarrassing situation and are hopeful that all players will recognize the potential serious consequences of thoughtless actions.” The WFDF Conduct Committee was comprised of Rauch, WFDF President, as chair, Patrick van der Valk, Spirit of the Game Subcommittee Chair, Ryan Purcell, Chair of the Athletes Commission, and Volker Bernardi, Executive Director.

Hello world,
today, we celebrated true irish weather at Dublin. Some of the hardeast rain and storm most of us have ever seen. It was played nonetheless, but only the first two matches on each field; after that, most pitches were closed down due to severe mud. We have made a new schedule to try to recover the schedule, on additional fields. But it is unclear if that will be possible, it depends much on the weather, and the schedule might be changed again.
However, the ultimate was very good. In Junior open, pool winners Germany and USA fought a close game, with USA taking victory 15:11. The other top match was even closer, and Colombia took the win away from Canada.
U17 open saw Germany defeated for the first time by Italy. This may lead to a tough rematch later on.
The womens division saw the three 2v3 crossovers in the afternoon, as all other matches in incredibe winds. The new team from Russia made it into this stage by decicively beating Israel, but had to surrender to Germany. The other matches were more closely contended, and saw a European uprising: Italy beat Japan, and Sweden battled down Australia. So the top 6 are COL, USA, CDN, ITA, SWE and GER. They will meet tomorow in the two upper pools, with semis on friday.
Spirits are still high. Most teams used the cancelled afternoon slots for socializing, or just to relax after the increasingly hard competition. For tomorrow we all pray for sunny conditions, as the fields otherwise may be shut down again.
See ya,

Bericht von DJ Debil vom 15.08.2012

most of the work is done for us staff people for today, newsletter for wednesday is finished, Jose Pires from Nantes and I inputting the last spirit results.
The tournament is in full swing. The junior open and U17 divisions finished their pools today, the girls play one more round in the morning.
In pool D of junior open, EYUC2011 siver medallist Austria played 4 great matches but only beat an also strond Switzerland in the end both are now in the lower pool; Colombia, Japan and Israel go up. Pool C sees Germany cruising, with Italy and Russia also up. No surprises in pool B with Canada, Sweden and GB. From Pool A, we see USA, France and Australia. Tomorrow, they have a tough start, with the pool winners playing each others in the power pools. Germany-USA and Colombia-Canada will be the line ups for that. Hot action guaranteed!
In U17 open, Italy were the surprise winners in pool B, whereas the 2011 champions from Germany are cruising in pool A. They will also meet tomorrow. But the system allows for all teams to take the gold medal still.
The womens pool games are still not over. In the C pool USA are cruising. Israel, so far without a win, managed to defeat GB 15-13, so all teams can still make it up. In the B pool, we saw an amazingly exciting match of Italy vs. Sweden, in strong wind. Italy played huck and D all the way, with many hucks finding their receiver, and took the victory 15-14. Both teams displayed amazing plays!
Pool A saw the top match between the world champions from Colombia vs. Germany. That team was also close all the way, with Colombia up. Germany got back in towards the end but eventually Colombia won, and will get directly into the upper pool. All 2nd and 3rd placed teams play a crossover tomorrow afternoon, while the U17 girls kick off their own pool.
The most spectacular women team thus far are the GB U17 girls, who won 3 out of 5 games against the junior women. Incredible! But actually all three U17 girls teams have a win on their record, the rookies from Austria were able to beat Israel, GermanyU17 beat Latvia. A brave new generation. GER vs AUT will be the first matchup tomorrow in the U17 girls pool.
Weather was superb, with lots of sun and some strong wind. For tomorrow, we are supposed to get severe rainstorms. But not even that will be able to bring spirits down.
Follow the scores on http://results.wfdf.org/?view=poolstatus&Pool=1210
Bye for now,

Heute gilt es, den Mädels die Daumen zu drücken, die spielen gegen die Weltmeisterinnen aus Kolumbien und gegen Japan. Harter Tag! Die Jungs sollten wiederum nicht viel anbrennen lassen...

Just a quick update:
today saw the opening ceremony and match. The weather is absolutely perfect, 22 degrees and sunshine. It was the most cheerful and outgoing mood I have ever experienced at any international championship, spirits are up very high!
The 47 teams, among those many non-europeans, have all settled in well, and the parade of nations was a very energetic event. It is amazing to see the spirit going around.
In the opening game, Israel and Columbia open, fought vvery hard and closely contended in the first half. There was hot action, but at the same time issues about physical contact were settled easily. In the second half, Colombia was just cruising to take the first victory. Israel has certainly gained some additional respect as well, though.
Monday morning games start at 9am on 11 pitches parallel, we are all quite excited about the first matches. Now, it started to rain, we are looking at proper irish weather for the rest of the week. So the question is: who is stronger, Ultimate Spirit or the (admittedly strong and cold) rain?
So much for now, more work coming at the tournament organizers and me to kick everything off at 9am,

Hi Europe,
here at Dublin, the WJUC is kicking off today, with the opening match of Junior Open Columbia against Israel.

There are 4 divisions: the junior women and open, also at european level the under17 women and open. In total, 47 teams are competing, so the size is similar to WGUC in Japan. The junior open division with 20 nations is even bigger.
We have seized the DCU in the north of the city, with 12 fields, dorms, floor accomodation in schools and plenty more amenities. Most teams have arrived today, but some alread days in advance to prepare and enjoy. New friendships are taken up, training sessions and friendly matches are played. The organizers of Dublin Ultimate have the biggest ever ultimate even in the country well under control.
The excitement from a european perspective is to see whether the euro teams will be able to match the intercontinental big 5 in Junior ultimate: Canada, USA, Australia, Colombia and Japan.
We are looking forward very much to an exciting 7 days here. Finals day is sat. august 18th, with live streams by ultivillage. Tomorrow, the two cheering powerhouses, Israel and Colombia, play the opening match at 6pm GMT, and on monday morning the bulk of the matches commence.
